tHe last lensoviet: tHe elections and tHe Beginning of tHe activity (aPril 1990 – august 1991)

The article is devoted to the first year of the Leningrad Soviet of People’s Deputies (XXI convocation). The fea-

tures of Leningrad’s social and political life in late 1989 are analyzed. In addition, the basic events and results of 

the Lensoviet’s election in 1990 are examined. The author describes the main Lensoviet’s activities until August 

1991, the formation of the internal structure of the Soviet, attempts to solve social and economic problems of 

Leningrad, etc. The key features of the policy of the Lensoviet are formulated.

Key words: Leningrad, Lensoviet, the XXI convocation of the Leningrad soviet of the people’s deputies, perestroika.
