litHograPHic series «vieWs of st. PetersBurg and its environs» By a.e. Martynov
This article introduces the creative biography of the famous Russian landscape painter Andrei Efimovich Mar-
tynov (1768–1826) in the context of the evolution of Russian landscape painting in the late XVIII – early XIX
century. The artist in many respects continued the tradition of the classical school of Russian landscape painting
of the XVIII century. However, it is a new word Martynov managed to say in the art of lithography. This series
«Views of St. Petersburg and its environs» is a unique example of the author’s early lithographs in Russia.
Key words: Russian graphics, lithography, landscape, painter A.E. Martynov, views of St. Petersburg and its
environs.
