Examining of Sinop Local Press in Ramadan 
 
 
Abstract 
Due to the rapid change  in communication technologies, free  movement  of information  is also 
facilitated.  As  in  the  past,  one  of  the  most  important  responsibilities  of  the  media  today  is  to 
provide healthy information to the public. The issues the local press deals with are mostly related 
to the local environment in which they are located. Local newspapers generally deal with issues 
related to regional news and social life. The main function of the local press is to convey the news 
to the public. The local press provides common press materials and serves as a stimulant. Much 
closer to the events that develop in the region because they live together with the public. In this 
study, news contents of local newspapers published in Sinop province center during the month of 
Ramadan in 2018 were examined. A review of news from traditional, cultural, national and spiri-
tual subjects. There are five newspapers in Sinop city center. These; Haber 57, Sinop Pusulası, 
Bizimkaradeniz, Vitrin Haber ve Sinop Flash Haber. Local news media in Sinop have been able 
to find a wide range of issues in traditional / cultural and national / spiritual matters during Ra-
madan. The most popular news in this news is the iftar dinners. The second is news pages consis-
ting of religious information. these are followed by news about Atatürk's Commemoration, Youth 
and Sports Day on May 19, which is one of our national holidays. In this sense, it can be stated 
that the local press of Sinop and the people of Sinop region have performed the news covering 
the national, spiritual, traditional and cultural values of the people of the country fairly high during 
Ramadan.

XIX. YÜZYILIN ORTALARINDA OSMANLI TOPLUMUNDA 
NÜFUSUN MESLEKİ YAPILANMASI: SİNOP ÖRNEĞİ

Öz 
 Sinop şehrinin mesleki yapısını ortaya koyacağımız çalışmamızla, şehrin nüfusun sosyo-ekono-
mik acıdan mesleki durumunun değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Sinop, Müslümanlar ile gayri-
müslim  olan  Rum  tebaanın,  birlikte  yaşadığı  ve  pek  çok  yönleriyle,  Anadolu  şehrinin  taşıdığı 
mesleki özellikleri yansıtan bir şehir konumundadır. XIX. yüzyılın ortalarında, Sinop’ta toplam 
20 mahalle bulunmaktadır. Bunların 14’ünde Müslümanlar, 6’ında ise Rum tebaa ikamet etmekte 
idi. Çalışmamıza temel olan kaynak, incelediğimiz dönemde oluşturulan ve her mahalleye ait tu-
tulan, hane reislerinin meslek adlarının da yazıldığı, temettuat defterleridir. Sinop’ta meslek er-
babı olan, esnaf ve tüccarlar tabi oldukları esnaf teşkilatının içinde yer almış, bu teşkilat tarafından 
konulan kurallara göre faaliyet göstermişler. Burada rekabet prensibi yerine, karşılıklı kontrol ve 
yardımlaşma esasına göre teşkilatlanmışlardır. Böylece toplumun bütünlüğünün korunması amaç-
lanmıştır. Değerlendirdiğimiz dönemde devletin içerisinde bulunduğu durumu itibariyle, Müslü-
man ve gayrimüslimlerin ilişkileri dış güçlerin teşvik ve tahrikleriyle güvensiz bir ortama içerisine 
girdiyse de, ticaretin gerekli kıldığı kural ve usuller doğrultusunda iyi ilişkileri devam ettirebil-
mişlerdir.

The Professional Structure of the Population in the Mids of XIX. Century: Sinop Case 
 
 
Abstract 
In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the professional structure of Sinop related to the socio-eco-
nomical  point  of  wiev.  Sinop  was  a  city  where  muslims  and  non-muslim  Greek  society  lived 
together and in those years it reflected the the same character of an Anatolian city related to the 
jobs of the people.  There were 20 districts in Sinop in the mids of XIX. century. Muslims settled 
in14 of them and the rest 6 districts belonged to the  Greece  minority.  The  main source  of the 
study is the registration book (temettuat )  in which the jobs of the people were registrated related 
to  each  district  of  the  city.  The  people  who  ran  a  shop  and  worked  in  the  city  in  those  years 
belonged to the union and  job associations and they ran their jobs related to the  laws  made by 
these unions or associations.  In the laws of these unions, there were not any compeition but the 
main idea was to keep the business in control and to help each other who were in trouble about 
the job. The period which was evaluated was an unstable period related to the provocations of the 
other enemy countries. However, the business  men and shop owners from both sides continued 
their relations depending on the trust and the international rules of business.
