One of the most decorative maps of Denmark. This 

example in an intermediate state not listed by Bramsen. 

Bears the imprint of Basset and Chiswell, but without the 

date 1626 or 1676.

BRITISH ISLES AND A MASTERPICE OF DUTCH 

ENGRAVING.

Depicted at the time of the Anglo-Saxon England 

flanked by scenes from the history. Almost identical to 

the map by Blaeu published a year earlier, but can be 

distinguished by the compass lines radiating across the 

sea areas of the map.

A collection of 7 double-page maps of Denmark, 

1 double page map of Hven, 4 double page maps 

and plans of Uraniborg and 10 single page prints 

of instruments. Latin text verso



AMSTERDAM  1662

In the history of the house of Blaeu this Tycho 

Brahe suite of prints is unique. Tycho Brahe 

is one of the truly great figures in the history 

of astronomy. The founder of the company 

Willem Janszoon Blaeu (1571 – 1638) studied 

cartographic science for six months in the 

early 1590’s underTycho Brahe at the latter’s 

observatory at Uraniborg on the Danish  Island of Hven. As a tribute, William’s son Joan published in 1659 and later in 

his monumental “Atlas Major” this set of maps, plans, views and instruments relating to Tycho Brahe. Also included in 

this collection are the seven maps of Denmark by Blaeu. A complete set including the extra maps and not contained in an 

atlas, this is a collection seldom offered for sale. 

All maps and prints are in an excellent condition.

REGARDED AS ONE OF THE MOST DECORATIVE MAPS OF NORWAY AND THE FIRST IN FOLIO-SIZE.

The second printed map of the country. Richly decorated with cartouches and coats of arms, the cartouche lower right 

with a dedication to Prince Christian who became King Christian V in 1670. The map depicts Norway up to Senja. Latin 

text edition.     

REMARKABLY FRESH AND IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.
