1. Antique literature The development of antigue world.
Literature is the reflection of people’s life. The earliest literature in Europe was Antique literature. It was appeared thousands years ago. To understand antique literature one should know and understand the life of people who created it. They are ancient Greeks and Romans.
Ancient Greeks inhabited the southern part of the Balkans, the islands in the Aegaen Sea, Crete, Rhodes, Cyprus and the coasts of Asia Minor. Crete is the largest Island located in present day Greece.
Greek literature followed rich folk creations and traditions of Greek people, which had been developing for hundreds and thousands years.
The first written monuments of Greek literature refered to the VIII BC, and Roman literature to the III BC. Decline of the Roman Empire concerned to V AD. The century was considered as the end of antique literature which was transfered to the literature of Byzantium. So, from its appereance till the literature of the Middle Ages antique literature had a huge period of time of about 1200 years (one thousand and 2 hundred).
