is a State Agency responsible for prescribing and enforcing
minimum workplace safety and health standards to the state of Iowa.
Isolated
- (1) Physically separated, electrically and mechanically, from all sources of electrical energy. Such
separation may not eliminate the effects of electromagnetic induction. (2) Not readily accessible to persons
unless special means for access are used.
Job Briefing -
ITC requires that a Job Briefing be completed before work can start. Job Briefings are
completed to ensure that each employee and contractor is informed of the hazards associated with the job,
work procedures involved, special precautions, energy source controls, personal protective equipment
required, as well as the scope of the job. Each crew must conduct a job briefing and complete a Job Briefing
form. In addition, persons working alone are required to perform a Job Briefing.
Jumper
- A metallic wire connecting the conductors on opposite sides of a dead-end structure so that
continuity is maintained. Synonym: Dead-end loop. A conductor placed across the clear space between the
ends of two conductors or metal pulling lines that are being spliced together
Ladder Safety System
– A system attached to a fixed ladder designed to eliminate or reduce the possibility of
a worker falling off the ladder. A ladder safety system usually consists of a carrier, safety sleeve, lanyard,
connectors, and body harness. Cages and wells are not considered ladder safety systems.
Line of Fire
– means a task in which objects in motion or those with ‘stored energy’ such as pressure, strain, or
potential energy could cause an object to be released in such a fashion as to violently strike personnel.
Master Ground Set
– Is a set of temporary personal protective grounds, rated for the available fault current for
a circuit, which tie all three phases, neutrals and static/shield wires to a common, best available, grounding
point at a specified location.
