The theory and practice of using technol

Google Drive

There are many ways why an English teacher should use Google drive. By description, Google Drive is a file storage and synchronization service developed by Google. With your students, it can be used for writing projects, audio, and presentations. While they are working on some projects or a task you can help them by giving them a general feedback on that task or a project, collaborate with your students on their pronunciation and as well correct their mistakes immediately. There are resources for Google Drive for students from all ages and grades but to have a complete collaboration with the students and for them to use it by themselves they at least, need to be in the higher grades of elementary school.

  1. Kahoot!

This tool is used to administer quizzes, discussions or surveys. It is a game-based classroom response system played by the whole class in real time and it is the perfect tool if you want to get reluctant learners engaged with a new topic. As a teacher, you can use Kahoot! to create educational games within it, put together teams within the class, and encourage them to compete to win challenges. The effect that you get from the usage of this tool in your classroom will be shown when students will start learning without even realizing it. This platform can be used to review concepts and vocabulary. You can also challenge your students to create their own Kahoot quiz to allow higher order learning.

Age: any age, mostly for students under the age of 16

  1. Edmodo

As a free social learning platform for students, teachers and parents, Edmodo is a very useful all-round tool. Your presentations, materials, essays, songs and everything you are using during the school year can be saved here and you can create a class library to give students easy access to these at any time. Because it looks like Facebook, students find it easy to work on it, plus it increases their interest and motivation. Here, you can also post photos of classwork completed by groups of students or individuals, so all the students can see it for best practice. You could schedule weekly spelling tests, set as multiple-choice quizzes and students will compete between classes and be motivated to learn the vocabulary or grammar units you are teaching them during that period of the school year.
