Achieving their Learning Potential
Introduction
Nationally, the Government is working to tackle the number of young people not in
education, employment or training (NEETs). For example, it is supporting thousands of
apprenticeships up to degree equivalent. In Derby, libraries are working with Jobcentre Plus
to provide job clubs to hel
p local people get into employment. The Council’s Adult Learning
Service provides a range of courses and is aiming to increase the participation in adult
learning.
Infrastructure
Schools
There are eight primary schools in the ward: Arboretum Primary, Pear Tree Community
Junior, Pear Tree Infant, Rosehill Infant, St Chad’s Church of England Nursery and Infant, St
James Church of England (aided) Infant, St James Church of England (aided) Junior and St
Joseph’s Catholic Primary.
There is no secondary school within Arboretum ward.
School Capacity
34
This information is correct as of January 2012.
School catchment areas do not always align with neighbourhoods or ward boundaries and
therefore schools may serve a wider area than the neighbourhood they are based in.
Four of the eight primary schools in Arboretum had a surplus of places. Pear Tree Infant,
Rosehill Infant, St Chad’s Church of England Nursery and Infant and St Joseph’s Catholic
Primary however had shortfalls in 2012. A more detailed breakdown is available in the table
over.
