Not only does our community of Old Fettesians and
current and past parents play an integral part in our
careers curriculum, they have also, this year, assisted
us in facilitating contacts and connections for advice,
internships and career changes for many OFs around
the world.
At Fettes, our series of informal career talks to ‘lift the lid’
on particular work areas have been gratefully received by
pupils, young OFs and speakers alike. We are exceedingly
appreciative to our OF and parent community for
supporting events in: Finance; Digital; the Arts; Health &
Medical; Sport; Communications and Energy.
“I think it is an excellent idea to get the students used to
networking – to realise what a loose term it is, I was
delighted to be able to help.”
Current parent
Face-to-face connections form an important part of the
Fettes Career Partnership Programme. We have well
attended regular business breakfast events in London and
in Edinburgh and are looking for contacts with venues to
enable us to roll these events out in other geographies.
Hong Kong should have been our first of these in October
2016, however a T8 Typhoon weather warning necessitated
a last minute cancellation. We are delighted that this event
is rescheduled for 31st March 2017. In addition, we held an
evening networking event at Skyscanner Ltd in Edinburgh
for the Fettes Community and for Sixth Form pupils. This
event facilitated professional networking amongst OFs
and parents and gave pupils an opportunity to put their
networking skills into practice.
“Striking up conversations was easy due to the Fettes
connection. From a Managing Partner to a recent
fellow graduate I felt confident and at ease.”
OF (Ki 2003-2008)
Support from the Fettes Career Partnership Programme
can be particularly useful for the young OFs in our
undergraduate community and for those even younger
exploring university options. We can assist in finding
Fettes connections for campus tours and course
discussions as well as those to discuss internship
opportunities with. We also visit key UK university hubs
for drinks and informal career conversations with the
local OF and parent community.
“Meeting people I knew from school and hearing about
the transition from Fettes to university was hugely
reassuring.”
Sixth Form Pupil
Internships are of increasing importance on a young
professional’s CV. With this in mind OF Ryan Li (Gl 2010-
2015) created a fund to support Fettesians in the Sixth
Form to participate in internships through the Fettes
Career Partnership Programme in Finance, Economics
and Politics. This year awards were granted to Hannah
Nairn (Da 2014-2016) and to Max Knight (Ki 2011-2016).
Members of the Fettes Community are coming forward
to offer OFs internships, which are so rewarding. If this is
something that you are willing to facilitate please do get
in touch.
FETTES CAREER
PARTNERSHIP PROGRAMME
Members of our community support each other at every stage based on the
strength of feeling that a shared Fettes education creates.

“I was amazed to see how much support I was given by
a past parent. She offered me a clinical attachment in
the Western General Hospital. I had a really rewarding
time there. I found the Fettes Career Partnership
Programme to be a continuation of the support I was
delighted to receive whilst at Fettes.”
