By assignment of Haydar Aliyev, Gabala Reservation of History and Culture was
created. Concrete walls and so on were built in a wide area with the purpose to
protect the monument from stream water.
Esteemed scientists, officials, intellectuals and dear youth! You should love
and protect Motherland and its historical cultural values in the way, as Haydar
Aliyev loved Motherland.
In the end I would like to inform you about publication of a book-album
"Medieval Agsu town" reflecting primary results of archaeological investigations
implemented in Agsu for a short time by the Expedition being prepared. Moreover
Internet page of the Expedition has been worked out. Now, the word is given to
deputy chief of the Expedition, candidate of historical sciences, our compatriot
Fariz Khalilli.

The event participants-academician Teymur Bunyadov, ANAS associate
member llyas Babayev, outstanding archaeologists Asadulla Jafarov, Arif
Mammadov, Abuzar Alakbarov; ethnographer scientists Tofig Babayev, Gazanfar
Alizade and others making speech expressed their memories of care to historical
cutltural heritage of Great Leader and hearty words concerning archaeological
investigations ongoing in Agsu. Member Parliament of the region Aras-tun
Javadov; Doctor of Chemical Sciences Mireli Alosmanov; history teacher of Bijo
village secondary school Yashar Garayev; head of education department of the
region Tahir Khasi and others delivered a speech and stated on behalf of Agsu
people that the movement of investigations ongoing in Medieval Agsu town are
followed with interest by entire region community.

SEMINAR IN AGSU
A number of events were held in Agsu region on the occasion of
International Museum Day on 18 May. Teachers and pupils of the region schools
made close acquaintance with the archaeological excavations to be held in
Medieval Agsu Town at the first half of the day and open lessons were held.

A seminar on subject "archaeological tourism and museums" dedicated to
International Museum Day was held in the Agsu History and Local Lore Museum
in the second half of the day with participation of Agsu Archaeology Expedition
members, the representatives of Agsu region Executive Power, museum workers
and intellectuals of the region.
Chief of Agsu Archaeological Expedition, and Doctor of History, Gafar
Jabiyev, deputy head of Agsu region Executive Power, Akif Mirzayev, restorer
architect invited from Italy Luigi Scrinzi, director of Agsu History and Local Lore
Museum, Sevda Demirova, and director of Haydar Aliyev Centre Reyhana
Tajizade spoke about last archaeological excavations implemented in the region
area; further fate, restoration, conservation and research of appeared building and
workshops; urgency of spread of archaeological tourism in Azerbaijan, tourism
opportunities of Agsu, and the position of the museums in the development of
archaeological tourism.
Department Head of Azerbaijan National History Museum and Candidate of
Historical Sciences, Fariz Khalilli talked about "Medieval Agsu Town"
Archaeological Tourism Complex Project and Archaeological Tourism erspectives
in Azerbaijan".
The area of Azerbaijan is a carrier of a multi-millennium history till
nowadays, and Azeris are founders of this history. The history begun from
Guruchay is displayed more as a result of many archaeological investigations, and
becomes to a document and source.
Touristic places rousing interest in the world today are cultural monuments,
displayed during excavations. Ancient history has always been charming and is
charming presently. The tourists paying a visit either large cities or small towns
and settlements seek the discoveries found under the ground. The archaeological
materials protected and demonstrated in the museums are very important from this
standpoint. Very often you can see local and foreign tourists standing amazingly in
front of the window the archaeological materials are demonstrated.
"Medieval Agsu Town" archaeological tourism complex project has been
realized under the support of Agsu intellectuals in initiative of "MIRAS" Social
Organization in Support of Studying of Cultural Heritage since March 2010.
The purpose is to investigate historical monuments of Agsu region aside
Azerbaijan's tourism routes and draw the attention of tourists to this area bringing
them to a due position.
Agsu was the largest city of Azerbaijan for the number of population in
XVIII century. The castle built by Nadir shah nearby Agsu village in May 1735
was a considerable residence in this area for a long time.
The rulers appointed by Nadir shah and Shirvan khans had a seat in that
castle. Agsu castle was a centre of uprisings by Shirvan noblemen against Nadir
shah. Haji Chalabi khan, and Muhammadhasan khan from Shaki, Husseinali khan,
