| True protection saves lives. ULBRICHTS Titan Helmets for SWAT and police officers. What is real protection for our action forces? Probably the most important aspect is the protection of life. This means that we need to protect the most sensitive and important part of the body as well as possible: the head. Genuine protection also provides the feeling of mental and physical safety required to fully concen- trate on the operation. The daily life of SWAT and police officers harbours risks that may not be preven- table, but can at least be greatly reduced. In the case of ballistic dangers, these are direct hits by a firearm – from a relatively short distance. Important: Ensuring real protection means that the helmet must not only stop the bullet but also convert its kinetic energy. The deformed helmet can other- wise cause serious or even fatal injuries. Police officers and SWAT expose themselves to life-threatening situations in order to protect the lives of citizens. It is all the more important to ensure them the best protection. Only helmets made of titanium are currently able to stop bullets and, at the same time, prevent the helmet from killing the wearer when it is deformed by the bullet. Ballistics tests at neutral laboratories according to the official techni- cal directive (TR 2010) confirm this superiority and produce the best possible results (0-10 Joules), which are far below the permitted value of 25 Joules which is regarded as fatal. Helmets made of aramid or polyethylene (a composite material based on tissues) protect namely against fragments (e.g. those caused by mortar fire or explosions), but only to a limited extent against bullets. The energy transmitted from the bullet (shot after TR) – if ever stopped – causes massive deformation of the helmet, which mostly lie far (60-120 J) above the survivable limit (25 J). The infographic illustrates: While helmets made of titanium offer total protection against bullets and trauma across the entire surface of the helmet from 10 mm from the edge, aramid/PE begins helmets only offer protection all around from approximately 40 mm from the edge and holes. The protective surface of titani- um helmets is therefore larger than that of aramid/polyethylene helmets by at least 50 – 100 %. However, the remaining surface of aramid/PE helmets do not generally protect against trauma.

Ulbrichts helmets can be configured completely according to your requirements. They can thus be configured with different inner helmet systems and with visor or visor adapters. The helmets can be equipped with a quick-size system or are available in different shell sizes. “Rails” and “Shroud” allow the use of standar- dised interfaces for night vision goggles, protective face mask, active hearing protection, radio, lamp, microphone, etc. Besides our module range, Ulbricht Protection also manufactures helmets that meet all your requirements on a project basis. Developed together with our partners, Ulbrichts has been manufacturing ballistic visors for over 20 years. These can either be mounted on the helmet or flexibly attached to the helmet using a bullet-proof adapter system made of stainless steel and removed in seconds again – depending on operational requi- rements. The visor cut can be customised suit the relevant police unit’s require- ments. Besides ballistic visors, we also offer lighter “anti-riot visors”. In the event of ballistic threats, it is especially important that the helmet not only stops the projectile, but also that the head is not injured by the deformation of the helmet or its com- ponents. The residual energy values of Ulbrichts titan helmets are compliant with the technical guideline (TR) “total system ballistic helmet” 05/2010 – their max. 10 joules putting them well below the permissible value of max. 25 joules. They reach only a fraction of the values for conventional aramid helmets, which transfer about 60 to 120 joules at the same reference ca- libre (9x19 Parabellum) – in a real-life scenario such a value would cause serious injury or death.
All Ulbrichts helmet models are fully certified according to the most modern ballistic testing standard technical guideline (TR) “total system ballistic helmet” 05/2010, which is seeing increasing use in Germany and Europe.
Why are Ulbrichts titan helmets the best ballistic helmets? High splinter protection High splinter protection according to Stanag 2920 V50>610 m/s 1.1 g FSP (only hybrid).
The highest ballistic resistance available on the market for ammuni- tion types/calibres in the test stages VPAM 3 (9x19 DM 41 8.0g VM) and for the hybrid model additionally VPAM 4 (.44 Rem. Mag., FMJ 16.2 g FMJ and .357 Mag, KSVM 10.2g). The helmets also passed numerous additional bal- listic tests (see product descriptions for detail).
Maximum protection area thanks to complete ballistic resistance of the helmet shell from up to a distance of only 10 mm in all models. This means that over 90% of the helmet surface provides an effective area of protec- tion, giving it up a 50 to 100% larger area of protection than an aramid hel- met with the same surface area. Titan helmets can also be manufactured with much larger helmet surfaces than was previously possible with aramid or PE.
