non-stimulating components and therefore was stated to be relaxant according to the chemical
prediction.
Chemical predictions versus aromatherapists’ predictions of effect on patient
The chemical predictions were largely similar to both the actual observed effect on the smooth
muscle and also similar to the aromatherapists’ prediction on the ‘patient’.
The latter effect was
either a relaxant effect or a stimulant effect on the ‘patient’; the stimulant effect could be directly
related to a contraction on the isolated muscle. The chemical prediction for lavender was
confirmed by the actual effect and that of the aromatherapists’ predictions.
