Solution

If students do not understand the text, I will let them use dictionaries and mobiles phones (as some use online dictionaries).

Warm up timing 10 minutes

  1. Work individually and pronounce the words.

PRESENTATION STAGE: TIMING 10 MINUTES (Individual > Whole class)



  1. Activity 1 / Rhyme game

Say a few words that rhyme, “cat, fat, bat”. Prompt children to join in the game. You may need to prompt by saying some initial sounds: /p/ - at, /s/ - at, etc. Include silly words (/z/ - at) and blends (/th/ - at)!

‘It’s essential to speak more than one language’ – do you agree? Why? Why not?

  1. Teacher tells the students that they are going to hear seven people answering the question and talking about why it’s important to speak more than one language. Ask them to listen and find out which of the people speaks the most languages. Tell them not to worry about understanding everything. Play the recording through once and then ask pairs to discuss their answers together, before checking as a class.
