Two marriages have been found, these fit well with the second & third Roberts above. It is also possible to identify children, i.e.

#1 Robert, born 1588/1589, son of Richard & Katherine. Married Mary Stevenson, 27^th June 1624.

#2 Robert, born 1620/1621, son of Christopher. Married Jane Casse, 23^rd Oct 1649

Children: Jane, born 1653; John, born 1656

A Robert Hovington was a juryman at Hutton Bushell, 5^th Oct 1622. This would have to be one of the first two Roberts, for age reasons. Another Robert was a juryman at Helmsley. The date of this is unclear, but is probably 1650s, and therefore could be either of the first three Roberts.

Mary, wife of Robert, died in 1657 – this would appear to be Mary nee Stevenson

Difficulties arise with the death of Robert Hovington in 1658 – this could be any of the four, who would have been aged unknow, 70, 38, and 1 respectively.

A Robert was recorded on Brompton hearths tax in 1673, and was a Brompton juryman in 1678. These dates fit the second Robert best (he would have been in his mid 50s). The second Robert would have been 85 and 90 – surely a 90 year old wouldn’t have served on a jury! The fourth Robert can be discounted as he was only a teenager. An Elizabeth, dau of Robert, died in 1676. Again, it would seem highly probable that this was the third Robert.

If, as seems reasonable, the third Robert was alive in the 1670s, then this narrows the death in 1658 to one of the three other Roberts.
