Grants for projects that support Armed Forces Communities

Purpose: The Armed Forces Covenant Fund (LIBOR) primarily want to fund coordinated, end-to-end approaches towards advice and support, which means we want to see organisations connecting to create joined up services and person-centred pathways through those services. However, they are also willing to fund new and imaginative approaches on a smaller scale. This includes replications, where projects take something that has worked in a different location or sector and try it in a new place. There is a budget of £10million every year, and this year, there is funding available for:

  • Community integration projects

  • The coordination and delivery of support to the armed forces community

  • Projects which address issues facing veterans in the criminal justice system

Who can apply: The lead organisation can be either a registered charity or a statutory body, such as a local authority. If the application is not lead by an Armed Forces charity, it must have an Armed Forces charity as a key partner. Other types of organisation can be partners in applications. All project work must be done on a not for profit basis.
Amount available:

  • Small grants for funding applications up to £20,000; and

  • Large grants for applications between £20,001 and £500,000

Funding to support Armed Forces Personnel and Communities

Purpose: The aim of the National Covenant Fund is to support the armed forces community. The Covenant Fund has £10 million each year to support the Armed Forces Covenant by funding projects which address specific priorities.

  • Priority 1 - The creation of a Veterans’ Gateway. A single grant of up to £2 million for a two-year pilot project to set up a 24/7 multi-media point of contact for veterans seeking assistance

  • Priority 2 - Families in Stress which will award grants of between £20,001 & £300,000 for projects that support families of serving personnel who are experiencing a significant stressful life event and would benefit from an intervention from a provider who can offer specialised support.

  • Priority 3: Improving Local Covenant Delivery - Under this priority we will be seeking to materially improve the experience of local Armed Forces communities (Serving Personnel, Families and Veterans) and ensure that they are not disadvantaged.

  • Priority 4 - The Community Integration/Delivery of Local Services (round 1) which will award grants of up to £20,000 for projects that respond to the local needs of the Armed Forces Community, help them integrate into civilian communities, and improve recognition of the Armed Forces Covenant.

Deadlines: The deadline for applications to the Veterans' Gateway is the 1st July 2016. The deadline for Expressions of Interest to Families in Stress and the Community Integration/Delivery of Local Services is the 22nd June 2016.

Grants to support projects that enable ex-service personnel back into civilian life - Forces in Mind

Purpose: The aim of the Forces in Mind Trust is to provide an evidence base that will influence and underpin policy making and service delivery in order to enable ex-Service personnel and their families to lead successful civilian lives. Forces in Mind Trust will concentrate on transition, a term used to describe the process where Service men and women, as well as their families and dependants, make their individual preparations to leave the Armed Forces and return back to civilian life.
We are also keen to help existing service organisations evaluate the impact of their existing work within these areas of activity if it adds to the general body of knowledge. It is evidence that should be used to determine need, develop policy, influence cooperation and help to ensure that funds donated by the public are best used to deliver a sustainable outcome.
Who can apply: Registered charities.
Amount available: Grants range from £7000 to over £300,000.
Deadline: This is a rolling programme and first round applications be submitted in writing at any time.

Health

Funding for community health projects from the Peoples Health Trust

Purpose: The Active Communities Fund seeks to support local groups and organisations with great ideas to make their communities even better places to live. Through this grant scheme the Peoples Health Trust are also looking for great ideas from communities of interest. By this they mean a group of people who have things in common and wish to come together to address something that is important to them. They are looking for small and local projects, genuinely designed and run by local people. By small, we mean just a small group of people on an estate, in a few streets or villages.

Who can apply: Active Communities is a funding programme for community groups and not-for-profit organisations, with an income of less than £350,000 a year or an average of £350,000 over two years.

Amount available: It's for projects seeking investment of between £5,000 and £50,000 for projects lasting up to two years.

Deadlines: The application window is very short and this fund is now closed, but will re-open in rotation.

In exceptional circumstances, where a project has a very strong heart element applications may be considered from researchers.
