The main objective of the study tour was to provide knowledge and skills in the sphere of CSO
financial sustainability, which will allow organizations to mobilize and efficiently utilize internal
and external resources for achieving their goals and executing their mission.
"Financial
sustainability
of
non-profit
organizations" training has become a
significant component of the study tour. It
was provided by Abay Myrkhin – a well-
known business trainer, consultant, and a
founder of the
Small and Medium
Enterprises
Development
Agency
"SMEDA"
.
It was a hands-on training aimed at training study tour participants on
cost efficiency
techniques
and development of internal funding sources. Abay Myrkhin also provided individual consultations
to participants.
A number of visits to financially sustainable CSOs of Aktobe city were organized as well.
According to the post survey 100% of the participants rated the effectiveness of the study tour as
"excellent".
All visits to Aktobe CSOs demonstrated that CSOs can provide services for a fee. This contributed
much to participants' understanding that according to legislation of Kazakhstan CSO can engage in
commercial activities but all profits should be used for the execution of organization's mission.
During the study tour most of participating CSOs shared their ideas on opening social enterprises.
"During the study tour we could get acquainted
with many good practices of Aktobe CSOs that
provide fee-based services. It was the turning
point for me when I got a clear understanding
that legislation of Kazakhstan does not limit the
right of non-governmental organizations to
undertake commercial activities. It is very
important that all profits gained will be used for
organization's activity, which means that we can
always follow our mission providing steady
support to our target groups". Lyudmila
Denisova, Chairperson of PA "Ulken Zhurek",
Balkhash town, Karaganda oblast.
