NEXT TO NORMAL – December 4, 2010  LA  A+  Very Limited trades (VOB) 4,10Gb.
Tour Cast: Alice Ripley, Asa Sommers, Curt Hansen, Emma Hunton, Preston K. Sadleir, Jeremy Kushnier. A Magnificent and beautiful capture of the new tour cast from the first stop in LA. The cast is very solid and made it their own from any other cast. A very highly, highly enjoyable cast with a few performances that rival the original. A+

First performance of the tour. Curtain call included, two short black outs, one (30 secs) just before Perfect for You, first minute or so of Act II, some washout in wider shots, vitrually no obstruction. Filmed with mostly wide and medium shots, which is really nice for this show. A

NEXT TO NORMAL – March 18, 2010 Broadway (VOB) 4,34Gb.
Starring: Jessica Phillips, Brian D'Arcy James, Jennifer Damiano, Adam Chanler-Berat, Kyle Dean Massey, Louis Hobson
Filmed in 16:9 widescreen. Act One has a few minor obstructions from a head on the lower edge of the screen, but they are brief and was shot around as best as possible. Moved for Act Two and had zero obstructions. About 30 seconds to a minute or so of blackouts at the start of each act, otherwise complete. Mix of medium and close zooms, depending on the action in the scene. A few instances in the audio where there is cell phone interference, but it should not be terribly distracting.   A fantastic performance from all, but especially Jessica. She has an absolutely incredible voice, along with very heartfelt and sincere acting. She has completely made the role her own.

Ramsey (Ado Annie), Gary Lee Reed (Andrew Carnes), Diane Vincent (Aunt Eller), Karl Warden (Will Parker), Sam Zeller (Jud Fry). OLIVER! - September 2010, Drury Lane Theatre Royal, London (VOB) 4,31Gb. VERY LIMITE TRADE

Russ Abbot, Kerry Ellis, Steven Hartley, Edward Cooke, Ben Wilson. Filmed from back stalls with virtually no blackouts and minimal head obstruction which is limited to the very bottom of the screen in wide shots. The action is followed very well, using various types of shots as necessary. One slight drawback to the video is that it is relatively dark due to the darkness of the lighting in the show itself; nevertheless, it is still an extremely well-filmed capture of the show. A-

OLIVER! - 1996 London Palladium (VOB) 2,00Gb.
Starring: Jim Dale, Ruthie Henshall
This is the Palladium version of Oliver that opened in 1994 starring Ruthie Henshall as Nancy. It's not the best quality but is very very watchable. You get to see the famous set that was used (very impressive). Ruthie is amazing - probably the best Nancy ever. Credit has to also go to EdBangor as he sent me a copy on DVD as he is not able to upload himself.

PAL JOEY - November 16, 2008 Broadway

Christian Hoff, Stockard Channing, Martha Plimpton, Robert Clohessy, Jenny Fellner, Daniel Marcus, Steven Skybell. A nice capture of one of Christian Hoff’s few performances (he only performed the role 7 times before being replaced by Matthew Risch.) Occasional head in front of the filmer gets in the way, but overall well filmed, with a nice mix of close-ups and full stage shots. A

PIPPIN - (Bob Fosse’s Master) 1981

Ben Vereen, William Katt, Chita Rivera, Martha Raye.

RARE! This video is very similar to the video that is commercially available. But when you compare them side by side (which I did) you notice subtle differences. This is a copy of Bob Fosse’s own video which he edited and returned back to the producers. It is a bit longer than the commercial video and Fosse chose many, many different angles, and different takes. This was his suggestion for how the show should be edited, but most of his suggestions were ignored. The show itself was not staged by Fosse, but by his associate, Kathryn Doby, based on his original Broadway staging. It is rumored that Fosse was not happy with the video that was released, preferring this edit better, and very unhappy that his suggestions were not utilized. Has counter numbers along the bottom of the screen. Some generational loss. B
