5 The depiction of father and sons relations in his works
In The Kite Runner, father-son relationships play a big component in shaping the story. The relationship between a father and a son is how Hosseini writes to show the complex bond between father and son to demonstrate the necessity of a loving and caring fatherly figure. There are multiple father-son relationships in The Kite Runner ,they include; Baba and Amir, Baba and Hassan, Ali and Hassan, Hassan and Sohrab, and Amir and Sohrab. However, the biggest father -son relationship throughout the novel is between Baba and Amir. The relationship between Baba and Amir is not your typical father-son relationship and the novel centers upon it. To begin the novel, Hosseini leads the reader to believe that all Amir wants is love and approval from his father. Amir is not exactly the son that Baba dreamed of having and because of The change in their lifestyle also represents a change in their relationship. In America, Baba and Amir discover themselves and their relationship continues to improve. Baba finally begins to realize that Amir can live up to his standards and that he should be in a greater part of his life. Baba and Amir’s relationship evolves over time as the novel progresses. Baba neglected Amir, which caused him to make poor decisions, while vying for his father’s love. Amir finds his true self and in the end his relationship with Baba helped to form him into the man he was at the end of the novel and Baba is proud of.The most important relationships in The Kite Runner involve fathers and their children, usually sons. The central relationship is between Baba and Amir , as Amir struggles to win his father’s affections and Baba tries to love a son who is nothing like him. When Amir learns that Baba is Hassan as well, he realizes that Baba also had to hide his natural affection for Hassan – an illegitimate son who was also a servant, but was in many ways more like Baba than Amir was. Later in the book the relationship between Soraya and her father General Taheri becomes important as well. As a girl the independent Soraya had rebelled against her strict, traditional father.Kite Runner Relationships are an important aspect of everyones life as they are affected by the influences by the people who surround them. In Hosseini’s, The Kite Runner, Amir has different relationships with Hassan, Baba, and Rahim that add to the plot and defines him as a person. Amir is a fairly complex character because the reader not only has to pay attention to Amir's actions but also how Amir feels.A Father’s Strife for Protecting the Son In the second phase of Amir’s life, he proves himself a brave man who dares to go to Afghanistan which is under the strict rule of the Taliban to protect his nephew Sohrab. In America Amir enjoys his professional and familial success, but somehow, he feels a kind of guilt for betraying Hassan and his inability to have a child with Soraya. Though Amir achieves dignity, status, and achievement in the eye of society, he feels void inside. After getting a call from Baba’s friend, Rahim Khan, he decides to go to Pakistan where he meets the utmost truth of his life that changes his perception of life–gives him satisfaction
Amir gains the meaning in life by becoming the father of Sohrab. The idea of being a father alters his life–transforming him from a selfish man to a responsible father who can fight against all the odds to protect his son. In this way Amir achieves his self-actualization, he finds a glorious world before him as a father.
