Independence Day is the major and the most revered holiday in Uzbekistan. The country gained independence on August 31, 1991.

The international musical festival "Shark Taronalari" has become very popular and prestigious. For the first time it was held in Samarkand in 1997 

•  Carpet weaving - a very ancient tradition in Uzbekistan, they are mainly woven by numerous home-workers in rural areas and are perfect in technique and design.
