SIMPLE PACMAN MAZE GAME

FIRST Computer Programming ACTIVITY

Goals: What will Youth do and create?

  • Youth get their first hands on experience of the Scratch programming environment. Participants can play around with the Scratch Interface and get accustomed to the design and layout of the tools.

  • Youth will create a simple pacman maze game

Objectives: What will YOUTH learn?

  • how to program using the MIT Media Lab Scratch environment and its graphical interface

Preparation and Materials:

  • A computer for each participant with Scratch installed

  • Simple Pacman Maze Starter Game installed

Right Section - The top of this pane contains a preview of your scratch project as well as the Start and Stop buttons. In the middle part of this pane, you can edit, import, or draw your sprites costumes, and through this you can also create duplicates. The 'master' selection and probably one of the most important tools is at the bottom of this pane. It controls whether you are working with a Sprite, or the Stage (Background), and is especially important because each of these has their own Scripts, Costumes, and Sounds. It is important to build the costumes and programs for the object (sprite or background) that you wish to work with. You know you are working with a particular object because a box will appear around it by simply clicking once on the object you want to work with.
Middle Section - This contains Scripts, Costumes, and Sounds.

    • The Scripts section is where you drag the program blocks from the left pane to create your program

    • The Sounds section allows you to import or record sounds to be used in the Sounds section of the left pane

Left Section - This contains the toolbox and subsections with the individual blocks that can be dragged into the center Scripts section to create programs.
