  • Parmenides a pre-Socratic Greek philosopher of Western Philosophy as well as a poet. He was born in Elea, Italy in 510 BC, son of Pyres and died in 450 BC. He was a student of Ameinias, as well as the founder of the School of Elea.

  • He is one of the most important philosophers in the soup bowl of all the Pre-Socratic Philosopher's, and is even taught of as the grandfather of western philosophy.

  • He inspired many later philosophers such as Socrates, Plato,Zeno (one of his students), Aristotle and others.

The basics foundation of Parmenides theory was something never thought of by philosophers. Many believed everything changed, Parmenides thought the exact opposite of that. Everything never changed. Instead our senses deceived us to believe in the idea of changing.

  • To him, the world itself has never changed, and instead our senses of the world changes and it is much to advanced for us to grasp. The only way we can grasp it is through logic.

  • the perception of movement and change is an illusion and says that everything that is, has always been and will ever be, since it can always be thought and spoken of.”
