The exhibition
During this year’s London Design Festival, acclaimed Swedish architect and product
designer, Jonas Lindvall and Skandium debut the Horizon cabinet, the first in a new
series created by Lindvall for the Studio Skandium product range.
Skandium will host a preview on 21st September, 4pm - 6pm where Jonas Lindvall will
be speaking about his latest architectural projects and how it continuously influences
his product design, including the Horizon cabinet for Studio Skandium.
The Horizon drawer unit
Following the success of our Jonas Lindvall exhibition and book launch at our
Brompton Road store last year, this year we present Horizon, the first of a series of
furniture collaborations between the Swedish architect/designer and Skandium.
Horizon is a drawer unit suitable for a variety of settings and storage use. Made from
oak, it features a corrugated facade and powder coated steel legs. Horizon will also be
available in a pale grey version, made from MDF with a semi matt lacquer finish.
The four-drawer unit follows a language of genuine simplicity. Each drawer opens
using a simple push mechanism. The intention was to create a piece of furniture that,
although simple in terms of shape and function, the complexity of the design should
be interesting on a number of levels. For example, sharp lines that define each of the
four drawers continue around the sides, creating a sense of fluidity and continuity.
"Horizon's surface was not only designed to add visual interest, but also add a tactile
element. Its grooved surface, the use of narrow indentations and push opening
mechanism invites to run your fingers along it. I wanted to take this classic form to
another level, to offer a sensorial experience." says Lindvall.

About Jonas Lindvall

Copenhagen before returning to his hometown, Malmö, where he opened his own office in
the mid-1990s. Over the years, Jonas has created villas, hotels, restaurants and more
recently, church interiors. As a designer, his portfolio is even more diverse, ranging from
furniture and lighting, to kitchens and bathrooms.

An exponent of traditional craftsmanship, Jonas Lindvall creates new classics that reflect a
spirit of modernity, whilst utilizing and paying tribute to skills and techniques of the past.
From the traditional turned chairs of the 18
th
century that inspired the celebrated "Miss Holly"
chair, produced by the Swedish furniture manufacturer Stolab, to the ecclesiastical
references behind his 2004-08 "Sacred Boxes" series, all provide inspiration for
contemporary ideas and solutions.
Lindvall's projects display an inherent feeling for the materials and a complex understanding
of the techniques and technical processes applied. Quite possibly, this is why Jonas Lindvall
has gained a reputation both in Scandinavia and internationally, as a designer and architect
of merit.
