dervish said, «That’s enough, lady. Your words are nonsense. Your words do not lessen my love
to my teacher. It can’t stop me. » Murid returned from the sheikh’s door and asked the people
about him. They said that Shaykh had gone into the forest. Murid reached his destination and
met the sheikh near the forest. The sheikh put firewood on the lion and saddled it himself, and in
his hand he had a whip made of a snake. The dervish talked to the sheikh and told about the
conspiracy of his wife. In this story, there is an idea that the student should not be suspicious of
any of the teacher’s activities, should listen to his words and follow his actions without words.
Here, the murid woman is the one who seduces the student, and the image of the sheikh is
embodied as a symbol of fortitude, courage and fidelity.
Regarding the teacher–disciple relationship, a number of wise words from «Masnavi” can be
cited as an example.
Including:
The master makes himself felt with his work,
All students praise him.
If the teacher tells the student
He does not know other knowledge, he is learning the method [5; page 94],
Or in «Masnavi» it is said in reference to the difficulty of mastering the secrets of knowledge of
a student without a sage, scholar, leader, guide and mentor:
If you don’t have a mentor, don’t try to start a job.
you will face disaster, trouble, danger…
Although you have walked many times,
You are a stranger without a guide, confused...
Turn your head in the right direction,
The right way is known by the guides [5; p. 98].
Do not try art without a teacher,
Everyone will laugh at you [5; p. 262], or in support of the above opinion, the following verses
from the work can be cited:
The mind divides one fiber into forty,
But for this you need a master.
If only he had a clear mind,
Each person had a profession [5; p. 426].
In «Masnavi» in the relationship between the teacher and the student, the student arrogantly
looks up to the teacher, but he does not know that the teacher is the same «khuvaidoyu nihan» in
front of the world [5; p. 176] means that all your hidden secrets are revealed. Rumi advises an
applicant for apprenticeship: «If someone touches you, look for a way to him and hold on to
him» [5; p. 274], – he says and again, «Someone on the right path may do deeds, but if he does
not have a teacher, will he find fruit? » Even a small job is nothing in this world, unless someone
works hard and teaches it» [5; p. 537], he honors the teacher.
In Masnavi, the activities of the master and the student are evaluated, and the art of knowing the
student with the master reaches its ideal, and the method of acquiring knowledge is sunnah for
the student, and the community is a friend and friendship for the student in acquiring knowledge
[5; p. 644]. A student who listens to the kind words of the teacher, from the charm, the teacher is
excited, and if he is a student [5; p. 689]. Because knowledge is like an ocean, the limit of which
is invisible, and a diver who is always looking for knowledge [5; p. 756].
