Interests and hobbies

The first thing that characterizes the mental side of a person is his interest and inclination, which reflects the direction of the person.
The fact that our mind is focused on a particular subject at the moment, as we know it, is called attention. By interests, we mean an attitude toward an object that tends to focus on it. If we characterize a person, if we notice his "interest in the theater", then he tries to be in the theater as often as possible, reads books about the theater and does not leave messages, notes and articles in newspapers related to the theater. in conversation or listening to radio broadcasts, he focuses on things related to the theater in some way, after all, his thoughts are often directed to the theater.
There is a slight difference between the concepts of interest and inclination. Under interest, of course, focus on a specific topic, on the other hand, an inclination, a specific activity. Curiosity is a desire to get acquainted with a subject, to study it, to perceive it, to think. Addiction is the tendency to engage in any particular activity.
Often, an interest in a subject is related to something important to a related activity. Interest in chess almost always plays an important role in playing chess. Curiosity can exist despite addiction. Not all people who are interested in theater are important for theater activities. You may have a lively and abiding interest in history and be inclined towards the work of a historian.
At the heart of the emergence of interests and inclinations is a need. However, not every need creates the constant interest that characterizes a person's direction. The need for food is one of the basic needs of every human being. If this need is not sufficiently satisfied, that is. if a person is hungry, then "interest in food" appears; his thoughts are on food. But such "interest" is temporary and passes as soon as a person is full; it does not represent a stable direction of a certain person, it is not a specific personality trait.
Determining the direction of a person, we first of all focus on the content and breadth of his interests.
If a person's direction is limited to a special interest that is not supported only in the external world or in the true love of life in all its manifestations, then no matter how important the subject of this interest is, neither normal development nor a full life of the individual not allowed.
The full development of a person implies a wide range of interests, without which it is impossible to get a rich composition of mental life. The abundance of knowledge that amazes us, that distinguishes many famous people, is based on such a breadth of interests.
Although the breadth of interests does not exclude the existence of some basic, central interests. Moreover, the diversity of interests is considered a valuable quality of a person only in this case, if these interests are united by some basic vital core.
The unity of life purpose, manifested in the central life interests, is the center around which all other human interests are grouped.
Everyone should be interested - at least most people, but with one thing. Suvorov can serve as an example of a person with absolutely wide interests, but subordinates to a person with a sharp expression of central interest. From childhood, he developed an interest and importance in military affairs, which became a real passion. As a teenager, in the village, in his father's house, he spent his whole life preparing for military actions; I read all the books on military history and technology that were out there, spent a lot of time solving tactical tasks, acclimated my body to the deprivation of combat life. And Suvorov, who was devoted to military affairs all his life, did not miss the opportunity to enrich his knowledge in any military specialty; At the age of 60, he studied special marine work and passed the medical exam.
Interests are the most important driving force for acquiring knowledge, expanding a person's horizons, and enriching the content of his intellectual life. The lack of interests or poverty, their insignificance, makes a person's life gray and empty. The most characteristic experience for such a person is boredom. He always needs something outside to entertain, entertain. Throwing himself on his person, such a person inevitably begins to get bored, because, regardless of external entertainment, there is nothing that attracts him, fills his thoughts, awakens his feelings. A person with rich and deep interests does not know boredom.
But at the same time, Suvorov was interested in almost all fields of knowledge, he read and studied in his free time until old age, as a result, he was one of the most learned people of his time. He knew mathematics, geography, philosophy, history. He devoted a lot of time to learning languages. He knew German, French, Italian, Polish, Finnish, Turkish, Arabic, Persian languages. Fiction occupied the greatest place in the scope of his interests. He not only constantly read the works of the best writers, but also carefully followed the current literature, and also wrote poems. The great breadth of interest and endless curiosity was one of the characteristics of the great Russian commander.
Stability of interests is also important. There are people who are interested in different subjects, but before long, one interest quickly gives way to another. For some people, these immediate interests are very strong and emotionally exciting; such people are usually called "addicted" people. Being a permanent and characteristic feature of a person, the instability and instability of interests becomes an unfavorable situation. A person who is not able to have stable interests cannot achieve great success in any field of activity. Interests have another characteristic - their efficiency or power. Curiosity can be passive in nature, because if a person falls within the scope of his vision, he ceases to focus on any subject. Such interest is enough for the student to listen carefully to the teacher's story during the lesson and even "with pleasure" to prepare a lesson on this subject, but it can encourage the student to actively, on his own initiative, look for sources of knowledge expansion in this field it's not.
