A pre -WW1 edition, much scarcer that the 1919, 6th edition, usually found. The author discusses various aspects of house design: plan, room layouts, exteriors, materials, cottage gardens etc. He includes many private examples, mainly from the London area, also LCC model housing.

Fox, 1844-1927, was involved in many of the great engineering projects of his time: Bridge at the Victoria Falls, the abortive Channel Tunnel, mining projects etc. He was also considerably involved in the conservation of churches and cathedrals, including Winchester, Exeter and Lincoln.

The designs were based on data collected by the Association. It was analysed by a panel of architects including Frederick Gibberd, Howard Robinson and Louis de Soissons. Mrs E Gregory, JP, a member of the Electrical Association for Women, represented the house-wife's point of view. Rare and interesting item.

Basil Ionides, 1884-1950, was a British architect and interior designer. He was best known for his design of the rebuilt Savoy Theatre in London. His designs here are a mixture of art deco and luxury traditional.

Interesting if a little out of date now. Japanese design had incorporated many design ideas from the west. Difficult to believe that more than a decade of economic stagnation was to follow.

Pforzheim, near Stuttgart, is probably the most important German centre for high class designer jewelry, and this work gives a good account of the early modern period, with excellent illustrations.

Thorough survey with good illustrations. Appendices are particularly interesting with chapters on 'Chamber of Horrors' and Diversions and Experiments'. Author was himself a well known furniture designer.

Designing the ‘Normandie’

Some cockling on end papers and scuffing with a little print loss on two pages due to old water stain, nevertheless a beautiful record of this great liner and quite a decent copy. £150.00



English language version of a sumptuous publicity book for this Blue Ribbon liner. Illustrations include cut-away drawings of the ship in colour and fine colour and black and white photos of various features including the great hall, dining room, chapel etc as well as beautiful artist views. One is a stunning double-page view of the dining room which was decorated with Lalique glass. There are also lovely gilded colour plates of decorative panels. Numerous French designers contributed to the decoration of the interior, including Lalique, Bouchard, Subes, Dupas etc. The final section covers state room and cabins, including a feature on a grande luxe apartment decorated by Sue. The Normandie entered service in 1935, was siezed by America during WW2. She caught fire whilst being converted to a troop ship and was scrapped in 1946.
