Essential Teaching Methods and their Usage in Learning English Language
ABSTRACT
The article focuses on basic teaching methods that are actively used in learning English language. Teaching English is the
process of helping individuals who do not speak English as their first language learn to speak, read, and write in English.
Also, learning is a specialized field that requires a great deal of knowledge, experience, and methodology in teaching English.
This article also expresses the main definitions of teaching methods and their use in education. Teaching methods are the
ways in which teachers use to teach English. There are many different types of teaching methods that are important for a
teacher to find the right methodology for their students in order to help them learn
.
Many scientists conducted psychological research on the problem of learning foreign languages, including 
K.D. Ushinsky, P.F. Kapterev, A.P. Nechaev, L.S. Vygotsky, K.N. Kornilov, N.D. Levitov, A.N. Leontiyev, 
S.L. Rubinshtein, D.N. Uznadze and other thinking scientists conducted scientific research. Currently, 
several works are being carried out in our country to further increase the effectiveness of teaching foreign 
languages, including the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan "On measures to bring the popularization of 
foreign language learning in the Republic of Uzbekistan to a qualitatively new level" Decision No. PQ-5117 
of May 19, 2021 became important. Especially in foreign education, taking into account the specific features 
of teaching foreign languages and psychological approaches to them, as well as modern requirements, the 
necessary educational literature and teaching-methodical manuals are being developed in collaboration with 
experts. At the same time, the fact that foreign language teachers’ pay attention to the psychological 
characteristics of foreign language students is a necessary condition for improving the quality and 
effectiveness of education. In order to improve the quality and effectiveness of foreign education, today 
teachers are required to perform several important tasks.
Teaching, like any other profession, is an artistic endeavor. It necessitates knowledge of its subjects,
proper implementation methods, openness to new teaching approaches, and patience. It is critical to lay
the groundwork for any language for it to flourish. Learning a new language, such as English, necessitates
knowledge of grammar, sentence articulation, and proper word enunciation. It is equally important to
maintain an environment suitable for boosting performance growth among the candidates. There are
numerous English teaching methods available to lay a solid foundation for learning the language.
However, various English teaching methods and approaches, have been tried and tested over the years,
with some being more effective than others. The teaching methods for any language can be subjective as
per one’s requirements. If you’re looking forward to building a career in TEFL, these English teaching
methods will prove beneficial in achieving your goal.

Grammar-Translation Method
The name itself explains the functionality of the grammar-cum-translation method. The strategy of
teaching English in grammar orientation depends on a ton of interpretation. The technique is the
conventional or 'old style' method of learning a language. A few nations approach this teaching style. The
fundamental thought behind this strategy is that the students become familiar with all grammar rules to
translate various sentences easily.
Many teachers recognize this technique as incapable since it does not include the spoken form of the
language, and communication skills are ignored, it hinders the creation of a direct link between thoughts
and expression. Consequently, this technique doesn't improve the student's communicative ability in the
language but only builds strong language writing skills.

The Direct Method
The Audio method is also known as the direct method, which involves thinking and speaking in English.
Here the communication between the teacher and the student is strictly in English, and the student is
barred from using their native language. This way, the student can get a stronghold on the accent and
fluency, the frequency of grammatical errors in this would be less. This method is widely used as it helps
the students learn the English language in a way a native English speaker would speak like and not the
orthodox textbook way. The following principles and procedures that guide the natural method are,

Teachers and students both use the target language in the classroom.

Students tend to have daily sessions on vocabulary and sentences.

Grammar is instructed inductively.

The Audio-Lingual Method
The audio-lingual method is also recognized as the Army Method. During the first world war, the
American Armed forces started escalating oral courses known as the 'Military particular Training
Program' (ASTP). Instructive organizations later received it as an audio-lingual method.

The striking highlights of the audio-lingual method are,

Language teaching starts with communication; the material is educated before it is offered in 
composed structure.

The objective language is the study hall's main language; the student's primary language isn't 
utilised.

The teacher is the role model for the student; student-to-student interaction happens in chain 
drills.
The army method is identified with the natural method. The most significant difference between the
audio-lingual method and the natural method is its focal point of teaching. The natural method focuses on
the learning of vocabulary, while the audio-lingual practice focuses on communication.
4. Suggestopedia
Suggestopedia is a behaviourist theory developed by G. Lozanov, the Bulgarian psychotherapist
in the 1970s. The method involves using the environment, music, decoratives, etc., for learning the language.
It depends a lot on the atmosphere and the physical environmental factors of the class. 
When it comes to the basic skills of teaching English language, they are completely important to conduct
the class effectively. To have an effective classroom, it is crucial to incorporate certain characteristics
including engaging classroom presence, value in real-world learning, and exchange of best practices.
Adaptability – Teachers are expected to work in a constantly evolving environment and adjust to the
changes involved in the teaching methods. Particularly, with the internet and new technologies, there may
be constant changes in the field throughout the career. 
Dedication- it goes without saying that teaching is a demanding job. However, dedication is instrumental
to helping your students succeed. Enthusiasm is infectious, it will keep up your energy levels and prevent
you from getting discouraged.
Class management- Organizing activities, conflict resolution, creativity, etc is a part of class management.
Developing these skills is crucial for effective teaching. Besides, being consistent in planning various
teaching methods will facilitate an engaging classroom environment.
Also, there are many strategies for teaching English learners, they have some principles. Four
Principles of Instruction:

Increase comprehension: Make meaning clear through visuals, demonstrations, and other means.

Increase student-to-student interaction: Engage students using English to accomplish tasks.

Increase higher order thinking and the use of learning strategies: Explicitly teach thinking skills
and learning strategies to develop English learners as effective, independent learners.

Make connections to students' background knowledge: Explicitly plan and incorporate ways to
engage students in thinking about and drawing for their life experiences and prior knowledge.
In conclusion, the prevalence of social media and the internet has evolved the way of learning English as a
whole. It is has become crucial for teachers to employ different methods of teaching English to address the
needs and interests of the students. 
So, any kind of method is intended to achieve a goal and so he set some goal, to achieve it how to do it, to
help you do it requires knowledge of the means by which it is given. In a word, pedagogical based on
teacher and student behavior as a result of the method, students gain knowledge, talents and skills to raise
their worldview, thinking and spirituality they achieve. To sum up, different teaching ways and modern,
intensive methods have also contributed considerable energy to the method of teaching foreign languages
in general. Especially, it can be vividly seen in teaching language to pupils at school in appropriate way.
