Year 12 DRAMA Unit Plan – Term 2, 2015

Unit 2 (Term 2)Theatre of the Absurd

Unit Overview:

Students will develop and refine expressive skills in voice and movement for a range of forms and styles, performance spaces, types of staging and audiences. They will refine performance skills and explore production design and technologies for dramatic meaning and theatrical effect. They will learn how to shape and control dramatic tensions and action by manipulating the elements of drama in devised and scripted drama. Students will be able to communicate meaning through realistic and non-realistic performance styles and dramatic forms by manipulating the elements of drama. They will experiment with innovative and hybrid forms and performance styles, focussing on the Theatre of Absurd.

  • Define Absurdism and apply techniques in a performance using a play script.

  • Compare performance styles of Existentialism, Surrealism and Absurdism and identify the use of dramatic meaning.

  • Create a structured performance as an individual within a group.

  • Demonstrate a directorial concept incorporating Absurd conventions.
