1. How does Mina describe Jonathan in her letter to Lucy?

Mina describes Jonathan as a wreck of himself; without a resolution in his eyes or quiet dignity in his face. (pg 141)

2. What request does Jonathan make of Mina regarding his notebook?

Jonathan tells Mina to take his notebook and keep it and read it if she has to, but only to tell him about its contents if dire circumstances arise where the information would save lives. (pg 143)

3. Where were Mina and Jonathan married?

Mina and Jonathan were married Hospital of St. Joseph and Ste. Mary. (pg 135, pg. 143-144)

4. What does Mina do with Jonathan’s notebook?

Mina wraps Jonathan’s notebook in white paper and ties it with a pale blue ribbon from around her neck. She sealed it with sealing wax and uses her wedding ring as the seal. She said it symbolizes their trust and marriage, and the seal would remain unbroken unless it is better to open it for the sake of Jonathan or others safety. (pg 144)

5. What daily pattern has developed in Renfield since Dr. Seward confined him to a straight jacket and a padded room?

Renfield has become violent all day and quiet from moonrise to sunrise. (pg 147)

6. Describe Renfield’s second escape and capture.

Renfield waited for the attendant to open his room and then dashed passed him down the passage. Dr. Seward and staff found him in the same place as last time and he would have killed Seward if the attendants hadn’t restrained him first. Then, as Renfield saw a bat, he became suddenly quiet and then agreed to go quietly. All the while bat flew purposefully on in a straight line. (pg 148)

7. What begins happening to Lucy upon her return home to Hillingham?

Lucy begins having bad dreams again when she returns to Hillingham. She wakes up pale and weak. (pg 149)

8. Arthur Holmwood asks Dr. Seward to examine Lucy. What are Dr. Seward’s finding regarding Lucy?

Dr. Seward found nothing physically wrong with Lucy, yet he is worried with her appearance. After talking to her, he concludes that the condition must be mental. He wrote to an old friend an ingenious diagnostician Dr. Van Helsing, and assured Arthur that Van Helsing would, for personal reasons, inspect Lucy. (pg 151-153)
