Eisenwerk Arnstadt GmbH (EWA) is a leading foundry in the sector of cast brake block shoes and brake blocks. Emerging from a special Deutsche Bahn AG factory, company tradition reaches all the way back to its founding year in 1921. EWA offers the complete product range of brake block shoes as well as a matching range of other products such as fittings and housings. The foundry's product range comprises castings from 1 kilogram up to 50 kilograms in GJL 150-300, GJL 250 P10- P30. The 96 employees produce up to 26,000 tons castings annually
Long-term customers of Eisenwerk Arnstadt GmbH are many State Railways, in addition to renowned European private railways, private car lessors and wagon manufacturers. The company is an HPQ-qualified supplier of Deutsche Bahn (DB AG), AQF-supplier of Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Français (SNCF) and supplier of the Österreichische Bundesbahnen (ÖBB, Austrian Federal Railways) as well as the Schweizerische Bundesbahnen (SBB, Swiss Federal Railway).
In June 2014, for the second time in a row, EWA was awarded the silver Trophée de l’Excellence of the French Railway SNCF, a customer of the foundry for decades. EWA received the prize in the category „Parts and Service“.
EWA in a strong Foundry Group

The foundry has been a part of DIHAG Holding GmbH since 1999.

Ten tradition-steeped foundries have merged in this high-performance corporate group. Under the joint Holding umbrella, each tradition-steeped subsidiary operates independently as specialist in its respective market segment.

The DIHAG foundries benefit from the financially strong Holding, which has invested EUR 150 million in state-of-the-art facilities and technologies of its foundries since 2008 alone.

To pool competencies in design and production of brake block shoes and increase synergies, EWA merged with two other foundries from DIHAG Holding GmbH to become Euro-Rail GmbH. Together with the foundries Euro Metall Kft. Budapest and Odlewnia Żeliwa Bydgoszcz Sp. z o.o., Eisenwerk Arnstadt GmbH, as Euro-Rail GmbH, is a long-term partner and main supplier for many European State Railways.
