Introduction Though indian food exists in Barcelona, Bembì is the first to offer a modern indian culinary experience. Bembì offers an extraordinary selection of authentic dishes in a relaxed and elegant atmosphere.
What is Bembì? Bembì is a word used in Mumbai, India, meaning the navel or "belly button". It is the connection between the baby and its mother. Bembì signifies the link between that which exists and that which does not. Bembì’s mission is to connect Barcelona with India.
The Cuisine Bembì 's dishes are based on tradition, but look to the future, and take Indian culinary artistry to a new level. The Bembì menu offers specialties from all over India- ranging from Kashmir in the north to Kerala in the south. This diverse nature of menu is designed keeping in mind the many specialties, which Indian cuisine offers. Bembì offers the choicest dishes from all over India to its Barcelona clients.
The menu is updated regularly with new and innovative dishes. Only the freshest of ingredients are used and natural herbs and spices and organic produce is sourced where possible.
Bembì takes great care to present Indian food in a progressive manner. Bembì amalgamates the western presentation styles with Indian food while ensuring that taste and flavors are kept intact.
Bembì’s Master Chef Culinary artistry is performed by Master Chef Anand Singh Negi whose origins are from the hilly town of Dehra Doon in Northern India. Born in Hyderabad in southern India, Anand spent the first 16 years of his life in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh where he came in touch with traditional Telegu cooking. Though he had the North Indian taste ingrained in him through home food, he also had the opportunity to be exposed to the fine nuances of south Indian food.
Driven by his passion to cook he joined the Institute of Hotel Management, Bhubaneshwar. Upon graduation he joined the eminent 5 star hotel group-Taj and worked there for 5 years. Here he had the opportunity to learn from the “grandmasters” of Indian cooking who shared with him many of the secrets of classical Indian cuisine.
In 2001 Anand came to the mecca of Indian food in the west- London. Here he worked for another 5 years with the prestigious Blue Elephant Group of restaurants. This is where Anand honed and developed his innovative western style food presentation.
The Décor Bembì a luminous contemporary space with delicately flavoured with Indian artifacts. The Bankura Terracotta Horses take the centre stage and the handpainted silk Rajasthani paintings of Gopi’s romance welcomes all guests. The golden waves give the waiting lounge a touch of seductiveness. The space is airy and incorporates two large dining rooms with décor in rich, spicy colours to lend a vibrancy to the food.
