  • Upon graduation from high school, Allport attended Harvard College on a scholarship where he would earn a degree in Philosophy and Economics and eventually a Ph. D. in Psychology.





In 1922, Allport traveled to Vienna to meet Sigmund Freud. During their meeting, Allport told Freud about an experience he had on the train there. He witnessed a boy who was afraid to sit in a seat where a dirty looking man had sat previously for fear of getting diry.

Allport viewed his meeting as Freud turning a mere observation into an analysis of a subconscious memory of Allport’s own life.
