Abdülkadir: Benim adım Abdülkadir, soyadım Şafak. Trabzon, Vakfıkebir, Şenocak köyündesiniz. Şu anda gördügünüz yer benim köyüm. Burda doğdum, yaşım yirmiüç, hala burdayım. Köyümüz çok güzeldir, Karadeniz bölgesi olarak zaten yeşillik, köyümüzde de ayrı bir güzellik var, meyvemiz çok olduğu için.Hem yukarlarda orman, hem buralarda meyve. Bayağı bir ilgi duyuluyor dışardan. Diğer köylere baktığımızda, bizim köye nazaran daha fazla şey var, orman var, bizim köyde meyve fazla, köyün içinde meyve fazla. Köyde yaşam zor, şartlarımız ağır ama alıştıkça insan, köyde durası daha fazla geliyor. Çay biçiyoruz yazları, çayla uğraşıyoruz. Bu köyümüzün bağlı olduğu ilçenin pazarı var, pazartesi günü, orda, Haftabaşı diyorlar, orda meyveleri,sebzeleri, yetiştirdikleri şeyleri satıyorlar, yan gelir olarak onları kullanıyorlar. İnek baktığımız için, ineklerimizin de sütlerini burda süt fabrikaları var onlara veriyoruz işte litre fiyatı beşyüzbin liradan olmak kaydıyla işte günde yirmi kilo süt veren bir kişinin ayda ne kadar sütü varsa ona göre onun parasını alıyor.

Abdülkadir: My name is Abdülkadir, my surname is Şafak. You are in the Şenocak village of the Vakfıkebir county, in the city of Trabzon. What you are currently viewing is my village. I was born here, I am 23 years old, and I am still here. Our village is a beautiful place, the Black Sea region is already green, but our village is prettier, because it grows fruit (trees). Outsiders are really interested [in this place]. When we think about other villages, in contrast to our village, those villages are more forested, fruit (trees) are found more in our village, and fruit is found more within the village. Life is not easy when you are living in the country. Our conditions are harsh, but when you get used to it, you want to stay here more. We harvest tea in the summers, we are preoccupied with tea. We have 4-5 cows, they have these big calves, we walk them around. Now, I am in the arable field of this village, called Mezere, it is like a plateau (summer camping ground); we are taking care of the cows there .One of our cows is named orange, another one is named antilope, another one is named plateau-girl, another one is named yellow-girl. We have calves, but they don’t have names yet. We will name them later. Here we grow hazelnuts. Farmers have hazelnuts as a subsidiary income. Hazelnuts are collected on the twentieth of each august, in the eight month. We (as a family) have approximately one and a half tons of hazelnuts (to sell), a kilogram pays five million (Turkish Liras) so you can calculate (how much it will make). It makes a yearly income. There are places which have tea, but we don’t have tea in our village. Since we do not have tea, we usually grow hazelnuts. Usually hazelnuts . . . everyone’s subsidiary income comes from [the sale of] hazelnuts. All villages have these, but there is also corn in other villages; neigbouring villages also have corn.
There are also greenhouses here. Those who build greenhouses usually grow lettuce, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers . . . they are usually occupied with those kinds of things. The county that our village is connected to has a bazaar, it is called Haftabaşı. There they sell the things that they have grown, so they benefit from them (the sale) as a subsidiary income. Since we have cows, we also sell the milk to the milk factories here. The price is five hundred thousand per liter, like a person who gets 20 kilograms of milk everyday, depending on how much milk he gets in a month, gets paid accordingly.
And this is my aunt’s daugther, Kevser. My aunt is married; currently she is living in Vakfikebir. These two are quite jealous of each other, and this is my brother’s son, I showed him just now. My aunt is a nurse; her husband is a radiological technician. They both work at the hospital, at the Vakfıkebir State Hospital. Since her daughter’s nanny is at the plataeu, her (nanny’s) family is a farming family too, they make a living with cows, and in the summer everbody lives in the plataeu, so we have her daughter; we are taking care of her.
